Cassaundra Park drives in game-winning run in Corner Brook Ladies Fastpitch Softball League victory

Coolene Brake was a threat all evening with four RBIs and four runs scored in a 5-for-5 outing at the dish, but it was Cassaundra Park who drove in the game-winning run for Whelan’s Gate.

Park, who went 3-for-5, scored twice and had two RBIs — including the clincher — as the Gators downed the West Side Monarchs in the bottom of an extra eighth inning in the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League game at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Katie Evans was also a huge part of the win, driving in a ridiculous seven runs for the victors, scoring twice, and going 4-for-5 overall.

Rose Ryan’s 2-for-2 effort led the way for the Monarchs, with Sara Purchase ending up with a 2-for-3 stat line. Purchase had two runs scored and an RBI, while Ryan scored once.

Kathy Lukeman chucked six innings in the win, walking 11 batters, but giving up only eight hits. She struck out four. Brake pitched two innings, giving up nine walks and two hits.

Kim Janes went five innings in the loss, surrendering 12 hits and nine walks, with two strikeouts. Selma Pike’s three-inning appearance saw her walk three, strike out two, and giving up nine hits.

On Tuesday night, Laura Prosper went 4-for-4 with a solo homer to lead the Monarchs to a 17-7 victory over the KSAB Rangers.
