One ball away from being a Youth Bowling Canada national champion.
That’s how close it got for Corner Brook’s Cody Jacobs in his quest for gold in the bantam boys singles event at the 2018 national Youth Bowling Canada tournament in Regina, Sask. over the weekend.

Jacobs had to settle for silver after a lost to Alberta’s Jordan Loewen, who had to be defeated twice because he had a double life.
Jacobs managed to pick up a win in the first game, but fell short in his comeback when he lost by six points in the second game of an intense showdown between two budding keglers from their respective provinces.
“My ball curved at the last second and plugged the head pin in the last frame. If I had to get the strike I would have won,” Jacobs said Tuesday morning as a group of Newfoundlandland and Labrador YBCers began the journey back home from Regina.
Jacobs won the provincial bantam boys singles crown to earn his way to nationals. He went to Regina focused on doing his best and meeting new people so he was willing to live with whatever happened on the lanes.
He was so close to getting gold so he had mixed emotions when the suspense came to a halt in the final frame.
“I was upset that I lost by six points, but I was happy that I got silver at least,” he said.
Bowling has been his thing to do for a few years now. He likes to travel and meet new friends and now he has shiny medal as a keepsake to remember one of the most exciting times of his life so the smile on his face will probably hang around for a few days.
Corner Brook’s Samantha Davis, no stranger to the national YBC stage, picked up a bronze for Newfoundland and Labrador with a third-place showing in the senior girls singles event in Regina.
