Susan Curtis foursome opens Travelers with 9-4 win over Northern Ontario

Opening a national curling event with a win is the start Susan Curtis was looking for in Kelowna.

The Curtis foursome, which also includes Kathy Miles, Sigrid Fitzpatrick and Pat Spracklin, all of Corner Brook, registered a 9-4 win over Kelli Stevenson-Beda of Northern Ontario in their opener at the 2016 Travelers national curling club championship Monday at the Kelowna Curling Club.

Curtis held a slim 6-4 lead until she put the game out of reach with a trio of rocks in the seventh end.

The Curtis foursome, who won the right to represent Newfoundland and Labrador by posting a perfect record at the provincial playdowns in Stephenville, will be in action for two games on Day 2 of the national showcase of club teams across the country.

Curtis will tangle with Quebec’s Nathalie Gagnon and Manitoba’s Tracy Andries with hopes of being among the leaders heading into Day 3.
