The Corner Brook Touch Football League’s new season got underway on Sunday at the Wellington Street Sports Complex.

In the first game of the day, the new team of high school students called the Knights were taught a harsh lesson in how tough football can be as the Gophers beat them 54-6.

Leading the way for the Gophers was Steve Hynes with six touchdown passes spread out to a number of different receivers.

Alex Forward caught two touchdowns and the conversion for two points each on three scores. Greg Myrden, Mike Tavenor and Anderson Traverse caught one each.

The one bright spot for the Knights was a touchdown pass from Mark Randell to Lucas Vincent.

In the second game of the day, the Raiders blanked the Broncos 13-0.

Matt Roche threw touchdowns to Ryan Hancock and Brandon Miller and MIke Macphee caught a one-point conversion. Miller also had three sacks of Broncos QB Ryan Barry to lead the defense.

Josh Innis led the Broncos defense with two sacks, with Peter Rose and Andrew Peckford adding an interception each.

In the final game of the day, it was Marine Lounge beating another new team to the league, the Gators, 16-0.

Harry Patterson fueled the attack with two touchdown passes and a two-point conversion.

Paul Prosper caught one touchdown and added a single point on a rouge. Steve Perry caught the second touchdown to wrap up the scoring.

Evan Brake powered the defense for Marine with three sacks.

Though the Gators were unable to score, they did manage to move the ball but couldn't get it into the end zone.
