Hawks outlast Marlins in Corner Brook Senior Baseball League action

A four-run second inning propelled the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks to a 5-3 triumph over the Wing’n It Marlins at Jubilee Field on Sunday.

Darren Colbourne drove in three runs, despite only going 1-for-4 on the day, in the Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League win. Mike Simms and Fred Prosper were both 2-for-4. Simms had two RBIs, while Prosper scored a pair of runs.

Daniel McCarthy led the offence for the Marlins with two RBIs in a 1-for-4 outing. Kyle Brown was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

The pitching win went to Aaron Purcell Pilgrim, who went the seven-inning distance on the mound. He allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits, with six strikeouts and two walks.

Matt Colbourne took the loss in a seven-inning performance of his own. He surrendered five runs (three earned) on seven hits. He walked six, and struck out three.
