Burden’s pair powers Riverdogz to win over tin men

Two goals from team captain Andrew Burden lifted the McHugh’s Riverdogz to a 3-2 triumph over the North Shore Tin Men in Corner Brook Molson Men’s Ball Hockey League play on Thursday night.

Leslie Pennell also lit the lamp in the victory at the Kinsmen Arena II.

Kyle Blanchard and Matt Rankin did the damage for the losing side.

Ricky Lushman outdueled Peter Parsons in goal.

The Tin Men broke the ice at 14:58 of the first period, when Blanchard scored from Evan Brake and Matt Ellsworth.

Pennell knotted the score with 2:44 to go in the opening half. Greg White assisted on the play.

The scoring picked up even more in the second, with the Tin Men again claiming the lead on a goal from Rankin at 9:41. Rick Crane drew the lone assist.

Less than two minutes later, at 7:55, the Riverdogz tied the score once more, with the goal coming off the stick of Burden. Mark Gillam and White assisted.

Burden’s second of the evening came quickly after that, at 6:58, which wound up being the winner. Mickey Lushman picked up the assist.

In other action from Thursday, AJ’s edged the Gros Morne Wildlife Museum Gulls in a 7-6 offensive showdown.

Jonathan Park registered three goals in the win, including the clincher with 1:05 left to go in the game.

Brian Park, Glenn Staples, Greg Park and Leslie Park added the rest of the offence.

Ben Murphy put up a hat trick in response for the losing side, while Brandon Hynes notched two. Chris Decker supplied a single marker.

Dave King was the winning netminder, while Rob Roberts took the loss.

In the late game, Marble Zip Tours eked out a 2-0 win over McAvery’s.

Scott Walsh recorded the shutout for the tour guides, with Ryan Burton suffering the defeat.

Grant Vincent and Colton Kennedy were the goalscorers in the win, with Vincent’s winner not coming until there was just four minutes remaining in the contest.
