Russell’s two-goal effort leads Rangers to victory

CORNER BROOK  Cory Russell pulled the trigger on two occasions to lead the Molson Luxury Limo Rangers to a 5-2 win over the McHughs RiverDogz Sunday night.

Russell opened the scoring eight minutes into the game on a setup from Dwayne Evoy and scored the eventual game winner with less than two minutes left in the first period at the Pepsi Centre.

Tim Caines had a two-goal game in the Corner Brook Molson Men’s Ball Hockey League matchup, while Jamie O’Connell scored the other marker and Shawn Neary picked up two assists.

Leslie Pennell and Andrew Burden replied for the RiverDogz.

Elsewhere, Glenn Staples scored the winning goal as A J’s eked out a 3-1 victory over the North Shore Tin Men.

Greg Park and Leslie Park also scored for the winners.

Matt Ellsworth was the lone marksman for the tin crew.

Meanwhile, Ryley Nadon scored twice to lead MacAvery's to a 6-3 victory over Gros Morne in the only other league contest Sunday night.

League action resumes Sunday night with the Rangers tangling with the tin men at 7 p.m., A J’s battling Macavery’s at 8 and Marble Zip matching up with the RiverDogz 9 p.m. at the Pepsi Centre.
