J.J. Curling, Sacred Heart emerge as champs
Brayden Sparkes had a game-high 22 points on Sunday as J.J. Curling captured the boys division championship of the St. Gerard’s/RNC Grade 6 Basketball Tournament with a 55-41 triumph over Pasadena.

The Western Kings of the provincial AAA bantam hockey league kept the good times rolling over the weekend with two wins in three games against the St. John’s Hitmen.
On Sunday, in the third meeting between the two teams at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, the Kings won 4-1.
Mark Hillier scored twice in the winning effort, while Skylar Coates and Lucas Robinson did the rest of the damage.
Noah Wilson provided the lone marker for the Hitmen.
Lucas Park earned the win in net over Evan Martin.
In the second game, which took place on Saturday, the Hitmen edged the Kings 2-1 on the strength of goals by Caleb Roberts and Tanner Humber Dredge.
Mark Randell scored for the Kings in the loss.
The Kings opened the three-game set with a 5-1 victory on Saturday morning.
Hillier picked up a hat trick in the win, while Jonathan Walsh and Coates also scored.
Alex Power got St. John’s on the board.
