There were definitely a few long nights over the course of the West Coast High School Hockey League season for the last-place St. James Regional High Saints, but they showed up ready to play time after time.
Their campaign came to an end on Monday evening at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex, as they fell victim to a lopsided 11-0 loss to the Elwood Regional High Lakers in Game 3 of their best-of-three semifinal series. The Lakers took it in three straight games.
Jordon Best earned the shutout for the victors, while Cody Way recorded a hat trick.
The rest of the offence came from Jacob Bennett (2), Jacob Oake, Drew Langdon, Josh Shears, Josh Oake, Mason Campbell and Jonah Soucy.
Brady Aucoin suffered the defeat in goal for the Saints, who were outnumbered and clearly overmatched.
The Lakers will now await the winners of the other semifinal series between the Corner Brook Regional High Titans and Stephenville High Spartans.
Monday evening in Corner Brook at the Kinsmen Arena II, the Titans downed the Spartans 6-5 in overtime to force a fifth-and-deciding game 6:20 p.m. this evening at the Stephenville Dome.
Evan Gallant recorded four goals, including the overtime winner, for the Titans. Brent Eason and Kyle George also scored in the win.
Ryan McNeil Lamswood, Ryan Perrier, Andrew Milley, Nick Butt and George Young got on the board for the Spartans.
Tyler Bursey outdueled Jordi Green for the goaltending victory.
