Bantam Kings sweep weekend series versus Central

The Central IcePak saved their A game for last, but the Western Kings still had an answer for them in action from the provincial bantam AAA hockey league in Bishop’s Falls this past weekend.

On Sunday morning, Riley Simms scored the unassisted overtime winner at 2:35 into the extra frame to give the Kings a hard-fought 3-2 triumph.

Mark Randell and Mark Hillier provided the regulation markers for the Kings, while Jeff Applin backstopped the victory.

Damian Freake had both IcePak goals. Jack Cameron took the loss in net.

On Saturday, the Kings coasted to a pair of lopsided wins, including a 7-3 decision in the weekend’s opening game.

Hillier netted a pair of goals in the win, while Bradin Burden, Lucas Robinson, Jacob Oake, Simms and Jonathan Walsh did the rest of the damage.

Bradley Blake, Ryan Hoskins and Brandon Casey lit the lamp for the losing side.

Applin earned the win in goal over Aaron Janes.

In the weekend’s second game, the Kings hung a nine-spot on the IcePak in a 9-1 victory.

Skylar Coates scored four goals in the winning effort, while Simms picked up a pair. Burden, Hillier and Jay Cornick buried single markers.

Hoskins was the lone marksman for the IcePak.

Lucas Park earned the W in goal for the Kings, with Janes suffering the defeat.
