Saturday night’s games were postponed due to the stormy weather, but the Corner Brook Royals buried the Port aux Basques Mariners on Friday night.
Tommy Ryan, Jamie Penney, Iain Pilgrim, Tyler Hunt and Ryan Meade all found the back of the net as the Royals thumped the Mariners by a 5-1 score at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.
Robert Parsons got on the board for the Mariners.
Bradley Power earned the win in goal over Byron Francis.
The two teams finished the first period tied 0-0, before Ryan opened the scoring at 10:17 of the second period, on the power play, from Adam Guy and Adam Loveless.
Penney made it a 2-0 game at 15:26, shorthanded, with Meade drawing the assist.
Before the intermission, Pilgrim gave his side the three-goal lead, scoring from Jeremy Bishop and Loveless at 18:16.
Hunt’s goal, from Penney and Meade, at 1:57 of the third increased the lead to four, before Meade struck unassisted to make it a 5-0 game. That goal was unassisted.
Parsons spoiled Power’s shutout bid at 3:12. Scott Francis and Brett Robinson picked up the assists.
Before the game, the Royals organization retired the No. 24 jersey of the late Shawn Neary.
In Friday night’s other game, the Stephenville Jets beat the Deer Lake Red Wings 5-2.
Brad Lucas, Shane Colombe, Ethan Retieffe, Josh White and Cam Dohaney provided the goals for the Jets.
Luke Parsons and Ryan Penney replied for the Red Wings.
Andrew Murley outdueled Nicholas Mitchelmore in net.
