Monday was a night of threes for the Elwood Regional High Lakers.
Josh Shears scored a hat trick as the Lakers swept the Stephenville High Spartans in three straight games to capture the West Coast High School League championship on home ice at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex.
Skylar Coates and Jolena Gillard also struck in the 5-1 triumph.
Brady Marche responded for the Spartans.
Jordan Best earned the win in net over Tristan Hynes.
Coates opened the scoring at 13:32 of the first period, from Sarah Gillard. Shears recorded his first of the night before the end of the frame, at 5:53, with Coates and Drew Langdon drawing the assists.
Shears lit the lamp again, unassisted, at 10:58 of the second stanza, before Marche got the Spartans on the board at 9:44.
Jolena Gillard put the Lakers back in control at 14:48 of the third, from Brady Cassell and Kirkland Anstey, before Shears capped the hat trick at 7:23. Michael Maher and Joshua Osbourne grabbed the helpers.
