As Hockey Day in Canada celebrations in Corner Brook reaching a fever pitch, the NHL Alumni and Royals Classic got things started in a big way Friday night.

In front of a packed house at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, teams made up of former pros and past members of the Corner Brook Royals squared off in a game meant to promote the spirit of the game.

Alumni like Darcy Tucker, Chris Neil, Wendell Clark and Chris Phillips joined the likes of past senior hockey standouts like Darren Colbourne, Kevin McCarthy, Ed Kearsey, Scott Mosher, Rob French and others for the game.

The game is one of a number of big events planned over the next days culminating in a live broadcast of Hockey Night in Canada from Corner Brook Saturday night.
