Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador inducts seven into Hall of Fame, hands out annual awards

Seven new members were inducted in the Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador Hall of Fame Saturday night at HNL’s awards banquet in Gander, held in conjunction with its annual general meeting.
Ryane Clowe, Dan Cormier, Jim Heale, Kevin Morrison and Cec Thomas were inducted into the athlete category, along with athlete-builder Bob Jackman and builder Bonnie Evans.
Among the awards handed out  the weekend:
Joe Byrne Developmental Honor Roll Award — Glen McCarthy, Stephenville
Female Hockey Promotion Award — Edgar Balsom, Clarenville
Ron Healey Memorial Award — Fred Slade, Clarenville
C.J. McCarthy Memorial Award — Clyde Williams, Deer Lake
Ray Bowe Award of Merit — Todd Horwood, Grand Falls-Windsor
Brian Wakelin Executive of the Year — Genny Duffenais, Stephenville
Minor association/club of the year — United Towns Minor Hockey Association
Gold Stick Award — Jack Lee, Arnold Kelly, Garry Dove
Junior Council Merit Award, Eastern Region — Bill Strickland, St. John’s
HNL Meritorious Awards for Minor — Keith Leonard (Northern region); Joe Reid (Western region); Hubert Spurrell (Central region); Kyle Paul (Tri-Pen region), Mark Noseworthy (Eastern region)
