Kings go 4-0 at provincial AAA bantam hockey kick-off tournament

The Western Kings were not overly welcoming hosts over the weekend.

The Kings — along with Central IcePak, TriCom Thunder, TriPen Ice, and St. John’s Hitmen — got the provincial bantam AAA hockey season on the go at the civic centre with a kick-off tournament.

Winners in all four of their games, the Kings capped the weekend with a 7-3 triumph over TriPen on Saturday.

Brady Taylor and Mark Randell both scored twice for the victors, with Luke Cornick, Brady Parsons and Mark Hillier adding the other goals.

Dylan Hartson (2) and Reilly Mayne provided the offence for TriPen in the loss.

Jeff Applin picked up the win in net over Kyle Youden.

In earlier action, the Kings thumped Central 5-1.

Mark Hillier netted the game-winner, while Jonathan Walsh, Brady Taylor, Jesse Hickey and Noah Veitch also got on the board.

Kobe Burt was the lone marksman for Central.

Lucas Park recorded the victory between the pipes, while Aaron Janes suffered the defeat.

On Friday, the Kings swatted aside St. John’s 3-1.

Jonathan Walsh had the game-winning goal, with Brady Taylor and Mark Hillier also finding the back of the net.

Alex Power lit the lamp for St. John’s.

Jeff Applin outdueled Evan Martin in goal.

In the Kings’ first game of the tournament, Lucas Park recorded a shutout as the Kings blanked Tricom 3-0.

Mark Hillier struck twice, with the first goal standing up as the winner, while Riley Simms added another.

Josh Pretty took the loss at the other end of the ice.
