It’s a hard-fought battle along the boards between, from left, Elwood High Lakers’ Cody Way, Stephenville High Spartans’ Evan Rouzes, Lakers’ Zachary Porter and Spartans’ Alex Deveau, during Game 3 of the high school hockey final at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex on Monday evening.

The 3-2 triumph over the Stephenville High Spartans at the Hodder Memoriual Recreation Complex gives the Lakers a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five West Coast High School Hockey League championship series.

Justin Compton and Lucas Reid also lit the lamp for the Lakers.

Brady Marche and Logan McIsaac did the damage in the losing cause.

Jordan Best was the winning netminder, with Tristan Hynes taking the loss.

The Spartans mustered a 1-0 lead in the dying moments of the first period, with just 21 ticks left on the clock, when McIsaac scored from Ryan McNeil Lamswood and Evan Rouzes.

Compton evened it for the Lakers about six minutes into the second stanza. Christian Kelly had the lone helper.

With 4:41 to go in the second, an unassisted goal from Marche put the Spartans back up by one.

The Lakers tied it again, however, about three minutes later when Reid struck. David Hardy and Oake assisted.

A scoreless third set the stage for Oake’s overtime heroics. His game-winner was assisted by Hardy.

The fourth — and possibly final — game of the series goes ahead 6:20 p.m. tonight at the Stephenville Dome.
