Following a two-game set at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, nothing has changed.
If the last laugh matters at all, the Cataracts earned it with a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon, following a 5-0 loss on Saturday night.
Collin Circelli, Chris Sparkes, Steve Yetman, Danny Wicks and Mike Sibley all lit the lamp for the Cataracts.
Hunter Tremblay, Ryan Penney and newest addition Kenny Mahoney responded for the Royals.
A.J. Whiffen was the winning goalie, with Bryan Gillis taking the loss.
The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in this one and looked as if they could’ve been well on their way to a weekend sweep on the road.
Tremblay struck first, just 3:49 into the game, from Michael Hynes and Mike Dyke.
Then, a little over five minutes later, Penney made it a two-score game, with Rodney Mahoney and Matthew Thomey picking up the helpers.
The Cataracts got on the board before the first intermission, at 15:07, as Circelli found the back of the net from Cam Fergus and Wicks.
Only one goal occurred in the second period, a power-play marker, and it belonged to the Cataracts.
Sparkes disturbed the mesh at 11:33, from Luke Gallant and Circelli, to knot the game up 2-2.
It wasn’t long into the third when the Cataracts took control, as Yetman scored 44 seconds into the frame to put his side up by one. Fergus and Andrew Brennan assisted.
Wicks then got on the board at 9:12, from Andre Gill and Brandon Street, to give the Cataracts some breathing room.
The Royals managed to get back in it shortly after, at 11:17, off the stick of Mahoney. Dane Marshall and Dyke recorded the helpers.
But with 44 seconds remaining, the Sibley put one in the net to restore the two-goal cushion and ice the game. Justin Barbour and Rodi Short picked up the assists.
On Saturday night, Chris Hulit and Phil Mangan both scored twice to help lift the Royals to the 5-0 triumph.
Matt Bragg added the other goal, while Gillis was flawless in net.
Whiffen took the loss.
