Stephenville claims gold at U12 female hockey tournament

Gia Caul scored two goals to lead Stephenville to a 4-2 win over Deer Lake in the championship game at an Under-12 female hockey tournament hosted by Deer Lake over the weekend.

Carmen Elliott and Cathy Morgan also scored for the winners at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex in a three-team double-round robin event.

Emma Joan Major scored both goals for the Deer Lake squad.

The game served as the championship game because it was already determined that both teams would be in the final.

Stephenville dumped Deer Lake 6-0 in the first matchup of the two teams with Caul leading the charge with a hat trick.

Carmen Elliott, Cathy Morgan and Samantha Trask also scored in the win.

Stephenville outscored Corner Brook 18-0 in their two showdowns.

Carmen Elliott had four goals, while Kendyl Hickey and Cathy Morgan had two goals apiece in a 13-0 win over the Corner Brook Minor Hockey Association representatives.

Taylor White, Katie White, Samantha Trask, Gia Caul and Abby Morgan rounded out the scoring parade.

Elliott had a hat trick to lead Stephenville to a 6-0 win over Corner Brook in the other game.

Hickey, Caul and Morgan also scored for the winners.

Deer Lake beat Corner Brook in both games to eliminate the city squad from a shot in the final.

Emma Joan Major had a four-goal game and Hannah Legge had a hat trick to lead Deer Lake to a 10-1 win in the first matchup.

Amber Gould, Laura Carter and Emma Knott also scored for Deer Lake.

Alexcia Taylor was the lone marksman for the Corner Brook squad.

Major had two goals to pave the way for Deer Lake in a 4-1 win over Corner Brook in the second game.

Emma Knott and Leya Way had the other goals.
