Titans, Panthers battle to high school hockey tie

A pair of third-period goals from Jonny Anderson helped the Gros Morne Academy Panthers rally for a 3-3 tie against the Corner Brook Regional High Titans Monday night in West Coast High School Hockey League action at the Kinsmen Arena II.

Scott Samms supplied the other goal for the Panthers.

Andrew Pinsent, Brady Boland and Matt Bonnell provided the offence for the Titans.

The Titans got on the board first in the dying moments of the opening frame, with 13.4 seconds left on the clock, as Pinsent struck from Gavin Luffman and Chris Kelly.

Boland scored at 12:57 of the second period to give the Titans the 2-0 advantage. Bonnell and Matt Colbourne drew the assists.

Then, at 11:09, Bonnell put his side up by three, with Matt Parsons and Ashley Bromley assisting on the goal.

With 7:52 to go in the second, Samms broke the goose egg for the Panthers. Anderson and Kyle Robinson picked up the helpers.

Anderson then went to work midway through the third period.

His first goal came at 8:16, from Cody Way and Samms.

He scored again 18 seconds later, assisted by O.B. Major and Samms, to knot the game 3-3.

Cody Brown was in goal for the Panthers, while Tyler Gardner tended goal for the Titans.

Elwood High Lakers 5, St. James Regional High Saints 4

Mason Campbell, Jared Bartlett, Jonah Soucy, Justin Compton and Josh Oake all lit the lamp for the Lakers in the victory at the Hodder Memorial Recreational Complex.

Noah King (2), Larry Boyles and Tristan Butt replied for the Saints.

Kirkland Young was the winning goalie, replacing starter Tristan Moss to start the third period with the Lakers down 4-3.

Mitchell Warren suffered the defeat in the other net.

The league-leading Lakers improved to 9-1-0 on the year, well ahead of the 3-3-2 Stephenville High Spartans. The Titans record moved to 3-4-1, while the Panthers are now 1-3-3. The Saints dropped to 2-6-0.
