Warriors settle for silver at AAA bantam female hockey championship

It was a close battle, but the girls from the east got the upper hand on the warriors from the west.

The Western Warriors won silver at the 2017 provincial AAA bantam female hockey championship in Glovertown over the weekend. The Western Warrriors had to settle for silver after a 3-0 loss to Eastern in the deciding game of a best-of-three final at the 2017 provincial AAA bantam female hockey tournament held at the Glovertown Arena over the weekend.

Eastern opened the series with a 4-0 win, but the Warriors came back to win the next contest by a 2-1 score with Robin Major and Cathy Morgan providing the goals.

The Warriors had to dispose of TriPen in a two-game total goals series to determine who would advance to the Gold series final.

Cathy Morgan had a goal and an assist to lead the western girls to a 4-1 win in the first game, while Robin Major, Sandi Whalen and Alexandria Kidd had the other goals.

The Warriors posted a 5-2 win in the second game as five different players — Hannah Gillam, Leah Dottin, Cathy Morgan, Sandi Whalen and Robin Major —

scored for the winning side.

The Warriors had a trio of players who turned in stellar performances for their team. Gia Caul won the scoring title with 11 goals and seven assists and got the nod as top forward, while Kailey Genge was chosen top defenceman and Carmen Elliott was chosen league MVP.
