Ryan Hancock made some key saves in the opening period with his team under pressure to keep his team in the game.

Then, the young guns supported him with a flurry of offence.

League scoring champion Luke Parsons had a three-goal game and Mackenzie Coles added two third-period goals to lead the Deer Lake Red Wings to a convincing 7-1 victory over the Corner Brook Royals Saturday night at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

Shannon Moores scored for the Red Wings in the opening period, the only scoring summary for the first 20 minutes as Hancock was spectacular turning aside 24 shots to keep the Royals at bay and the crowd out of the game early.

Jalen Gillard had a goal and an assist for the red and white, while seasoned veteran Ryan Penney collected three helpers in a winning cause to help the Red Wings take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven West Coast Senior Hockey League final.

Adam Guy scored for the Royals at 10:29 of the third period to spoil Hancock’s bid for a shutout.

The Red Wings opened the series with a huge 6-4 win Friday night in Game 1 at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex.

The series resumes with Game 3 Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.
