Andrew Moss collected 23 points for the second straight game Thursday night to lead the Elwood Regional High Lakers to a 60-46 victory against the Stephenville High Spartans.

The victory gave the Lakers a sweep of the best-of-three Western Regional qualifier series and allowed the Lakers to advance to the 4A Tier 2 provincial basketball championship tournament, taking place at Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John’s from March 20-22.

Matt Hiscock added 18 points for the victors, with Lucas Hoyles putting up 11.

Andrew Patten scored a baker’s dozen for the Spartans, while Tiuri Lomond drained 12 and Brayden Legge had 10.

In the opening game of the series in Deer Lake on Wednesday night, Moss’s 23 points again was a game high.

Hoyles had 17 points for the Lakers and Hiscock netted 10.

Patten’s 19 points led the way for the Spartans, with Legge knocking down 11 and Lomond scoring 10 points.

The Spartans didn’t leave empty-handed, however, as Lomond earned the School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador sportsmanship award.
