DEER LAKE Nathan Barker has two provincial basketball crowns and two MVP awards to his credit in back-to-back weekends on the hardwood.
It’s no wonder he’s considered by many in the know as the best high school basketball player in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Barker drained a game-high 21 points and got the nod as tournament Most Valuable Player as the Corner Brook High Titans Level 1 squad downed the Lewisporte Collegiate Lynx 81-47 in the gold-medal showdown Sunday morning at the Elwood High School gymnasium.
Christopher Dobbin drained 16 points for the champions, while Tyler Wise supported the offensive surge with a 13-point outing.
Philip Osmond collected 17 points for the Lynx in a losing cause at the Elwood High gymnasium.
Barker and company went undefeated to claim the crown at the 2014 Newfoundland and Labrador West Coast Provincial Grade 11 Boys Basketball Tournament in Deer Lake.
Last weekend, Barker won MVP honours as the Titans Level 1 squad proved to be a force on the hardwood by winning the provincial Grade 10 A boys basketball banner.
The champs, with coach Dean Barker at the helm, earned a berth in the final by virtue of a 78-38 triumph over Gander Collegiate in one of two semifinal games played Saturday at the Elwood High gymnasium.
Barker had 16 points to lead the charge for the undefeated champions, whilWise shared the limelight with 14 and Dobbin threw in a 13-point contribution.
Dave Summens collected 13 points for the Gander entry.
The Lynx earned a showdown with the Titans after downing the hometown Lakers 65-55 in the other semifinal encounter Saturday evening.
Andrew Snow and Philip Osmond had 13 points apiece for the Lynx, while Daniel Rowsell threw in 11 and Dante Hiscock netted 10.

Ibby Dogar had 22 points for the Exploits Valley High boys.
Lewisporte Collegiate Lynx 55, Stephenville High Spartans 44
Andrew Snow was the big gun for the Lynx with a 16-point performance.
Andew Patten drained 14 for the Spartans.
Elwood High Lakers 62, Stephenville High Spartans 46
Andrew Moss and Matt Hiscock had 20 points apiece for the hometown Lakers at the Elwood High gymnasium in the tournament opener Friday.
Brayden Legge poured in 17 points for the Spartans.
Corner Brook High Titans 93, Exploits Valley High 56
Tyler Wise paved the way for the Titans — winners of the provincial Grade 10 boys basketball crown last weekend — with a 12-point performance on the hardwood.
Ibby Dogar drained a game-high 24 points for Exploits Valley representatives.
Elwood High Lakers 62, Gander Collegiate 50
Andrew Moss was a dominant force for the Lakers with a 27-point performance.
Ryan Mouland was the top scorer for the Gander boys with 10 points.
