The Rapid Power Sports Bees may have finished in last place in the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League regular season standings, but they’re getting hot at the right time.

The Bees won their third of three games this week, Thursday night’s being the regular season finale, by a 17-12 score over the West Side Monarchs at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

The game was called due to darkness after the sixth inning.

Kaitlyn Blanchard scored twice and drove in a run in a 3-for-3 effort at the dish, while Nikita Nippard equaled the 3-for-3 feat, scoring one run. Ashley Penney and Lorna Lovell were both 3-for-4. Penney had three RBIs and two runs scored, while Lovell scored three times and picked up an RBI, while stealing an astounding six bases.

Ashley Bromley also stole six bases for the losing side, going 0-for-1 with three walks and three runs scored. Dawn Ryan and Steph Sparkes both scored a pair of runs in 1-for-1 outings. Ryan also recorded an RBI, and was walked three times. Sparkes was walked twice.

Lovell and Nicole Wells shared pitching duties in the win. Lovell gave up five hits in four innings, with six walks and three strikeouts. Wells went two innings, allowing four hits and six walks, while striking out one.

Bromley surrendered 15 hits over four innings in the loss, with seven walks and a strikeout. Amanda Legge threw two innings, getting hit seven times, and walking four. She also registered one strikeout.

The playoffs begin Monday when the Bees tangle with the top-ranked Whelan’s Gate Gators in one best-of-five semifinal series. The other series, which begins Tuesday, sees the KSAB Rangers battle the Monarchs.
