Brake comes up huge for Gators in Corner Brook women's softball action

A massive seven-RBI, four-run 6-for-6 effort at the plate from Coolene Brake powered Whelan’s Gate to a 26-20 triumph over the West Side Monarchs in Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League play on Monday evening at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Kathy Lukeman scored six times in a 2-for-2 night that saw her walked four times. She also collected an RBI. Gillian Hedderson was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Laura Prosper led the way for the Monarchs in defeat with three runs scored in a 3-for-3 night. She was walked twice.

Kim Janes was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Sarah Stratton scored twice and drove in a run with a 2-for-2 evening.

Danielle Hurley chucked a little over five innings, giving up 12 hits and four walks, but striking out one. Brake threw the remainder, allowing eight hits and walking nine, with two strikeouts.

Kim Janes and Prosper both gave up 10 hits, Janes in three innings and Prosper in four. Janes struck out two and walked six, while Prosper walked 11 and had two strikeouts.
