Pasadena native Robin Wight won a gold medal with a group of townie volleyball players at the provincial senior women’s A division in 2015 when she was living on the east coast.

Last season, Wight, who moved back to Pasadena a couple of years ago, bowed out in the semifinal round of the provincial tournament in Gander with Michelob Ultra of the Corner Brook Women’s Volleyball League.

This past weekend, Michelob Ultra won the silver medal in senior women’s A after losing two-straight sets to Bud Light Lime of St. John’s, which happens to be the core group of players Wight won the championship with back in 2015.

Wight was one of the seasoned veterans on a young squad that also featured Canada Games volleyball graduates Hailey Oke, Katie Perry and Erin Grabka. Sarah Stratton, Alyssa Hunter, Erin Ryan, Catherine Ducey and Annika Bieger rounded out the roster for the Corner-Brook based Michelob Ultra squad.

Wight was a standout during the tournament, rewarded for her effort with selection to the tournament all-star team along with teammate Sarah Stratton.

“That was pretty sweet. That was a good feeling,” Wight said of her being named to the A division all-star team. “It was really nice to be acknowledged, for sure.”

She’s been playing A division volleyball for a number of years so it was nice to get her first individual award, but she praised her teammates for putting in a strong effort against some really strong teams from across the province.

She liked how her team competed from start to finish and left everything on the floor.

“Playing in the top division you’re playing the best and every team out there wants to win it,” she said. “It was really good ball and it was a lot of fun.”
