Logan Pittman found his comfort zone on the volleyball court, but that shouldn’t be a big surprise when the sport is something embraced by his entire family.
Volleyball is No. 1 in the Pittman residence. It’s an activity that keeps them active and allows them to spend quality time together as a family.
“Volleyball is my favourite sport. I love to play it and all my family plays it,” Pittman said Thursday afternoon.
Pittman, a 14-year-old Corner Brook resident, is a setter for the Corner Brook Intermediate Grade 9 boys basketball team.
The sport is tops for Pittman because it allows him to be active, spend time with his buddies and travel around the province to compete at various tournaments.
Pittman is a starter with the team and he loves being the setter because he gets lots of touches on the ball. He also gets to set up his teammates for some big hits.
The team is a talented group of individuals who are close on and off the court. It has been a great season so far with gold medals at both VolleyWest and VolleyFest, and the quest for a third-straight gold medal will take place this weekend when the guys go for gold at VolleyCentral in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Pittman credits the team’s success to all hands working hard and putting the team first at all times. He believes they have a lot of skilled players in all facets of the game so he doesn’t see why the team can’t win gold for a third-straight time.
“All our players love the sport a lot and we’re really dedicated to it,” he said.
His dad is the coach of the team and his older sibling Cameron is a member of the Corner Brook High Titans AAAA boys volleyball team so he’s been able to feed off them in his desire to be a better player.
He’s been playing the game for a couple of years and he hopes to suit up for the Titans on the high school scene when he graduates from junior high.
It’s a game that makes him happy and he’s pretty handy at it so he hopes to stay engaged in the sport for the long haul.
“Wherever there is volleyball I’ll be happy to play for any team,” he said.
