Harris finished third in 100-metre snowshoeing — basically a winter-time version of a sprint — in a time of 20.71 seconds in the female Class 9 final.
She is one of four Newfoundlanders —all snowshoers — on the Canadian team at the Austrian Games. The others are Justin Dodge of Grand Bank, Sandra Smith of Carbonear and Crystal Young of Harbour Grace.
Dodge just missed the podium today in the men's Class 11 100 metres, finishing fourth in the final in a time of 17.90 seconds, less than 3/10ths of a second behind the third-place finisher.
Harris has another event — the 200 metres — on Tuesday. Smith and Dodge also compete in events Tuesday, while Young’s next competition is Wednesday.
