The Whelan’s Gate Gators are one win away from the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League title.

The Gators grabbed a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five final with a 15-3 mercy-rule win over the KSAB Curling Rangers in five innings Tuesday evening at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Coolene Brake pitched a strong game, scattering seven hits over five innings in the win, with three walks and a strikeout.

Jill Chaulk was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Melanie Powell drove in a pair of runs and scored another while going 3-for-4. Katie Evans and Kathy Lukeman both went 2-for-4. Evans had three RBIs and two runs, while Lukeman scored twice and recorded an RBI.

Megan Payne, Donna Clarke and Karen Bolger all went 2-for-3 in the loss. Bolger scored one run.

Clarke took the pitching loss, giving up 14 hits over five innings. She struck out eight batters, and walked three.
