Local ski racers shine at Marble Cup

The Marble Cup stayed with the home team on Sunday, as the Marble Mountain Alpine Race Team captured the overall team trophy at the annual ski race event.

With a point total of 2,681, the local racers easily outdid second-place Brookvale Ski of Prince Edward Island’s total of 1,030. Nova Scotia’s Ben Eoin was third with 514, Smokey Mountain of Labrador was fourth with 406, while Ski Wentworth of Nova Scotia came in fifth with 320 and Crabbe Mountain of New Brunswick was sixth with a 280 total.

Andrew Payne of Marble won the award for top junior male, while the top junior female was Abby Storey of Crabbe Mountain. Kelly McCardle of Brookvale was the top senior female racer, with Noah Hann of Wentworth grabbing honours for the top senior male.

The Kris Waterman Memorial award for leadership and sportsmanship went to Marble’s Claire Simmons. Brookvale earned the Harvey Bishop Award for most spirited club.
