The first official day of skiing at Marble for 2018 is in the books.

According to its website, Marble Mountain ski resort in Steady Brook is open today with the Lightning Express and Magic Carpet operating.

Marble management continue to watch the weather as Environment Canada issued a snowsquall watch for Sunday with winds gusting up to 60 kilometres an hour.

The outdoor operations crew was busy with the snowguns during the night in an effort to prepare the hill for a much anticipated opening day at the ski hill.

The snow guns are in place on the lower mountain and workers are concentrating their efforts on the Cruiser, Jigger and Steinbergs because they require significant manmade snow before the hill can be open for safe skiing and riding.

The website also says the Black Mariah chairlift requires a lot of manmade powder before Marble can safely unload guests at the top so it will remain closed until conditions improve.

Marble’s Snow School programs went ahead as schedule on Sunday.

Marble will be keeping skiers and snowboarders in the loop with regular updates on its website at skimarble.com.
