Thousands of people running through foam on an obstacle course getting filthy clean.
That’s what Richard Wells envisions for the 5K Foam Fest being held Sept. 15, 2018 at Marble Mountain ski resort in Steady Brook.
At least 22 inflatable obstacles to manoeuvre around over five kilometres.
Two of the longest inflatable water slides in Canada on site.
A couple of mud pits, and 2.5 million cubic feet of foam falling freely throughout the course.
The event is being brought to Newfoundland and Labrador to finish off a cross-Canada tour by 365 Sports Inc. based in Ontario.
The owners of the company pitched the idea of bringing it to the west coast of the province after an offer to bring it to St. John’s didn’t generate any interest.
Wells, the new sales and marketing manager for Marble Mountain, met with the owners of 365 Sports and was impressed with what they had to say about hosting an event in this province.
Some may think Wells is unrealistic with a lofty goal of attracting a minimum of 4,000 people to participate in Foam Fest, but early indications give him reason to believe it will be a big hit with runners of all ages and abilities, and will entice some people who have never run a kilometre in their life.
It’s not a race. It’s a fun event with a party atmosphere with 12,000 watts of awesome music, great food and enthusiastic people complimenting the fun in the foam.
While it’s months away, Wells has been blown away with the positive response, noting there are already 500 people registered and word is only beginning to spread about Marble playing host to it.
“For Newfoundland to have over 500 tickets sold already is saying something, that people are interested,” Wells said, noting ticket prices for the event jump after registration numbers hit 1,000 participants, so early registration is encouraged to ensure a cheaper cost to be involved.
