Megan Smith may be slight in stature, but her presence on the local running scene has been huge.

The St. John’s native, a registered dietitian who moved to Corner Brook from Windsor, Ont. in 2015 for work opportunities, was the fastest female on the course at the 2017 Physical Rehab Spring Opener 5K Race held Sunday at Tipping’s Pond in Massey Drive.

Finishing fourth overall, Smith posted a final clocking of 20 minutes and 30 seconds to claim the women’s crown. It was the same race Smith made her west coast running debut in back two years ago when she covered the 5-km jaunt in 20:32.7.

For the first time in a handful of years for sure, the men’s champion hailed from central Newfoundland with Stephen Ford of Grand Falls-Windsor registering an impressive time of 19 minutes and 11 seconds.
