The Olympic silver medalists, who have six Canadian titles and two world titles under their belts, will be the guest skaters for the 2017 Silver Blades Skating Club’s year-end ice show 7 p.m. at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.
Among the favourites in the run-up to the 2017 world figure skating championships in Helsinki back in March, Duhamel and Radford finished seventh, a pretty impressive feat considering injuries nearly kept them off the ice.
Only hours before the pairs free skate at worlds, Radford was on the verge of throwing in the towel, in misery after awakening with a hip ailment that had worsened overnight despite aggressive therapy and some painkillers.
Turns out Duhamel was also somewhat lamed by executing the triple toe swapped in for the side-by-side triple Lutzes that Radford couldn’t perform, due to his hip condition.
Radford and Duhamel will be in the limelight with budding skaters from the club awestruck, but the night is also a chance for the local skating community to showcase its athletes.
From the youngest to the oldest, everybody gets a chance to show how they have progressed over the year, but more importantly it’s an opportunity for the skaters to relax and have fun in front of family and friends.
Graduating skaters Bethany Whelan, Kennedi Boland and Michaela Foster will perform solos at the show before saying good-bye to their extended family and moving on with the next chapter of their lives.
The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are on sale at the Corner Brook Civic Centre Box office or online at www.cbciviccentre.com.
