Whelan’s Gate and the Rapid Power Bees banged out 44 hits between them and combined for 49 runs.
While Whelan’s Gate came up short in the hit department (25-19), they finished on top where it counted as they downed the Bees 25-24.
Katie Evans led the offensive charge for Whelan’s Gate going 4-6 at the plate and knocked in five. Gillian Anderson was perfect at the plate going 3-3 and drove in five runs.
Kathy Lukeman was likewise perfect at the dish picking up four hits and knocking in two runs.
Meanwhile, Danielle Hurley hit a homerun and finished 2-3 with three runs-batted in (RBIs).
For the Bees, Rebecca Goulding finished with three hits and four RBIs in a losing effort. Also contributing at the plate for the Bees was Ashley Bromley (4-4), Kayla Brake (5-6) and Judy Wells (4-6).
Hurley started for Whelan’s Gate throwing five innings, striking out three, walking six and giving up 17 hits. Michelle O’Reilly came on in relief to through the final two frames.
She gave up eight hits and six walks in relief.
For the Bees, Nicole Goulding got the start and gave up eight hits and 12 walks over three innings while striking out one. Judy Wells pitched the final three frames and surrendered 11 hits and six walks while striking out a lone batter.
