CORNER BROOK  Jacob Grant and Gary McKeown provided the marksmanship as Newfoundland and Labrador shaded Nova Scotia 3-2 in the gold-medal showdown in the boys division at the Atlantic Under-13 soccer championships Sunday in Corner Brook.

Dylan Crichton and Sam Hawco shared the shutout for the host team, who finished round-robin play in second spot with a 2-1 record after Nova Scotia had defeated the host team 3-2 in round-robin action at Wellington Street Sports Complex to finish in first with an unblemished 3-0 round-robin record.

New Brunswick claimed the bronze medal in the male bracket after a 5-2 victory over Prince Edward Island Sunday morning at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Pitch.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia downed Newfoundland and Labrador 3-2 in the gold-medal showdown on the female side Sunday morning.

Kamryn Brimicombe, Teni Aleindoju and Madison Bruce dented the mesh for Nova Scotia, who finished in top spot in round-robin play with a 3-0 record, including a 1-0 win over the host team — the only loss for the provincial female squad in round-robin play.

Kate Hickey and Ashley Stratton scored for Newfoundland and Labrador.

New Brunswick captured bronze on the female side with a dramatic 3-2 shootout win over Prince Edward Island Sunday at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Pitch.

The shootout was a marathon with Sophia Mehlitz’s penalty kick in the ninth round sealing the deal.

Kiana Gagnon had both goals for New Brunswick in regulation time, while Madison had a two-goal game for Prince Edward Island in regulation time.

Nova Scotia 8, Prince Edward Island 1

Anthony Phelps and Aoub Al-Wabi scored two goals apiece for the Nova Scotia representatives in a lopsided victory at Wellington Street Sports Complex on Day 1 of the tournament.

Alec MacKenzie, Rini Rrahamani, Oboid Hedayat and Owen Lidstone also scored for the victors.

Zachary Wall was the lone marksman for the P.E.I. squad.

Oboid Hedayat (3), Alec MacKenzie (2), Rini Rrahamani (2), Aiden McFarland and Owen Lidstone supplied the offence for the winners.
