Registration numbers continue to rise for Foam Fest at Marble Mountain in September

Newfoundlanders typically don’t buy tickets in advance so it’s hard to know if an event will be a hit in the community where it’s being held.

Richard Wells doesn’t have to worry.

Marble Mountain to play host to 5K Foam Fest in 2018

Wells, the sales and marketing manager for Marble Mountain, is expecting a great event when the 5K Foam Fest takes place Sept. 15 at the Steady Brook ski resort.

The event is being brought to Newfoundland and Labrador to finish off a cross-Canada tour by 365 Sports Inc. based in Ontario.

The owners of the company pitched the idea of bringing it to the west coast of the province after an offer to bring it to St. John’s didn’t generate any interest. Wells, the sales and marketing manager for Marble Mountain, met with the owners of 365 Sports and was impressed with what they had to say about hosting an event in this province.

Wells was in an upbeat mood Monday afternoon when he revealed that registration for the event is around the 2,000 mark and there’s still plenty of time to register online so he expects to hit the 3,000 mark before the foam starts flying at the base of Marble Mountain.

“We’re ecstatic with that. It’s crazy,” Wells said. “They are super excited to be coming to Newfoundland."

The event needs about 4,000 participants to break even.

A large percentage of the people registered for Foam Fest hail from the Corner Brook area and there is a large contingent of people making the trek from the east coast of the province and there is a group of 60 coming from Halifax to get in on the filthy clean weekend expected at Marble.

Wells believes people are excited about the event because they’ve seen some of the videos being used to promote it and he expects the numbers to rise once people get word that a friend or co-worker has already signed up.

“They go online and see the videos they realize it is truly North America’s No. 1 fun run,” Wells said. “With all the videos we’re putting out and Foam Fest are putting out, I think people are really jumping on board with it and seeing how much fun it’s going to be.”
