Royals beat Jets to meet Jets

A two-goal effort from Tommy Ryan powered the Corner Brook Royals to a 5-0 win over the Stephenville Jets on Friday night at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

The victory locked up second place in the West Coast Senior Hockey League and punches the Royals ticket into next weekend’s one-game final, where they will meet the same Jets team at the Stephenville Dome for the Cliff Gorman Memorial Cup.

The Royals also got goals from Ryan McMackin, Johnny Jones and Matt Colbourne in the winning cause.

Brad Dyke put up the shutout in goal.

In the weekend’s other league game, the Port aux Basques Mariners doubled up the Deer Lake Red Wings 6-3.

Greg Edgar (2), Jody Kelly, Drew Nadon, Jasper Dicks and Scott Francis lit the lamp for the victors.

The Red Wings got goals from Gary Hynes, Jason Young and Justin Compton.
