Don’t spend your night in the penalty box against the Red Machine.

That’s a message sent to the hometown Royals on Friday night.

The Deer Lake Red Wings racked up five power-play goals in a 7-5 victory over the Corner Brook Royals in West Coast Senior Hockey League play Friday night at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.

Ryan Penney scored two power-play markers in a four-point night to lead the charge for the Red Wings who took over sole possession of first place in the standings with the road victory.

Scott Flynn, Stephen Simms, Luke Parsons, Jalen Gillard and Zach Letto also scored for the visiting Red Wings, who held a 3-2 advantage after 20 minutes and a 5-4 edge after 40 minutes.

Ryan Hawco, Wilf Bellows, Ryan McMackin, Adam Guy and Tommy Ryan scored for the Royals, while shifty playmaker Ryan Meade collected a trio of assists in a losing cause.

The Royals will try to bounce back from the home loss when they clash with the Stephenville Jets Saturday night 7:30 p.m. at the Stephenville Dome.
