Curling Rangers’ Darren Buckle, right, and U18s’ Matt Hancock give chase to the ball during the men’s soccer league Kick-Off Cup game Thursday at the Wellington Street Sports Complex.
Luke House’s late goal stood up as the winner on Thursday night as the Under-18s defeated the Steers Insurance Curling Rangers 2-1 in action from the 2016 Molson Kick-Off Cup season-opening exhibition tournament of the Corner Brook Molson Senior Men’s Soccer League.
Nathan Barker provided the other marker for the victors at Wellington Street Sports Complex.
James Rossiter was the lone goalscorer for the defending league champion Rangers.
Barker opened the scoring in the 32nd minute of the 70-minute contest.
House’s goal came in the 64th minute.
Rossiter found the back of the net for the Rangers two minutes into injury time at the end of the game, much too late for the Curling contingent to complete any comeback.
In the tournament opener on Wednesday night, Stephenville played the Tactics FC to a 0-0 draw.
Action continues 7 p.m. tonight as the Tactics tangle with Gander.
