Steers Insurance Corner Brook United FC kicked off its 2017 Molson Challenge Cup provincial senior men’s soccer league season over the weekend at Wellington Street Sports Complex against Feildians.

It was a tough start to the year for the home side, as they dropped Saturday’s game 4-1, before falling 1-0 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Tiuri Lomond provided the lone marker for Corner Brook, in the 16th minute, to give them a 1-0 lead. Zach Hynes evened it for Feildians in the 31st, before Aaron Buckingham buried the eventual game-winner for Feildians in the 40th. Daniel Gooden (45th) and Greg Reid (54th) capped the scoring for the victors.

On Sunday, Buckingham’s goal in the 37th stood up as the winner in the 1-0 win.

Corner Brook United FC are back in action on the May 27-28 weekend when they visit the east coast to tangle with Mount Pearl and Conception Bay South.
