The Newfoundland and Labrador Nordic ski team has been announced and there is healthy representation from this side of island.

That is because just under half of the 11-person team is tied to either the Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club in Corner Brook or the Whaleback Nordic Ski Club in Stephenville.

The west coast athletes are:

• Ella Tucker — juvenile girls, Blow Me Down;

• Chloe Reid — juvenile girls, Blow Me Down;

• Claire St. Croix — juvenile girls, Whaleback;

• Hugh Warkentin — junior boys, Blow Me Down;

• Daley Merrigan — juvenile boys, Blow Me Down.

There are a number of west coast coaches working with the team as well.

Luke Dunphy (Whaleback), Brian Dunphy (Whaleback) and Mark Tierney (Blow Me Down) are all on the staff.

The provincial team has a number of events lined up already. In December, theyll be heading to the Menihek Nordic club in Labrador City for an on-snow training camp before taking part at competitions in Quebec and Ontario in the early part of 2018.

The team will also vie for The NL Cup.

It pits the best in our province against each other in five different races in different centres around the province.
