The Xavier Junior High Grade 7/8 team toppled the competition over the weekend to win the provincial Grade 8 Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association championship in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The team went 4-0 overall, winning each game by 25-30 points, although the tournament was played under the 20-point fairplay margin, so official results dictate the won each game by 20.
They defeated Corner Brook Intermediate 54-34 in the championship game, after downing Exploits Valley 52-32 in the semifinal.
Corner Brook made the final after disposing of Pasadena 56-43 in the other semifinal.
Other scores from the tournament were: Exploits Valley 57, Lakewood 33; Xavier 61, Corner Brook 41; Corner Brook 46, St. Paul’s 26; Pasadena 54, Lakewood 34; Xavier 38, St. Paul’s 18; Pasadena 61, Exploits Valley 44; Exploits Valley 42, St. Paul’s 22; and Corner Brook 33, Lakewood 13.
