Dear Editor,
As a young Canadian and university graduate I find the scale and violence of the Montreal student demonstrations to be quite alarming. More alarming than the students smashing the windows of the banks which lend them money to continue their studies — is what appears to be a culture of entitlement. At which point did post-secondary education become a right and not a privilege. It seems that a great many of these youth do not understand that along with the mental challenges of university must also come financial discipline and sacrifice if need be. I believe it to be a great moral hazard to negotiate with these protesters. If they believe that destruction of property is the best way to advance a cause next week they will be burning down the Apple store protesting the new iPhone price – which they are entitled to, of course.
With regret,
Alex Duhaney
