WABUSH, N.L. – A company looking to operate a blockchain technology data centre in Wabush says its electricity application has been approved.

In a release today, Aug. 15, BlockLab indicated the Public Utilities Board (PUB) has sanctioned its request to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

“We are pleased and excited with our application approval, allowing us to move forward with the Aurora project site in Wabush” said Mike Darrigan, BlockLab’s co-founder and chief executive officer.

“This project will showcase how a dedicated team of local experts, working with the community and stakeholders can bring a project like this to fruition.”

BlockLab said a series of community information sessions will be held in the coming weeks to explain the project and answer any questions about it. More details will be released about the sessions soon, the release indicated.

“This project further demonstrates that BlockLab is a Canadian leader in blockchain technology development and has a comprehensive plan to expand that incorporates stakeholder and community support,” Darrigan said.
