ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Sharon Murphy, a former senior vice president with Husky Energy, has been named chairperson for the yet-to-be-named “OilCo,” the upcoming stand-alone oil and gas Crown corporation.
A cabinet order details the list of board members for the Crown corporation.
Murphy brings 33 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Prior to her work with Husky she was a vice-president of Chevron Canada. According to the department of Natural Resources, Murphy started her career working on the Hibernia Development Project.
Murphy has a degree from Memorial University and is a past governor for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
Bernard (Tanny) Collins has also been called out of retirement to sit on the board.
An inductee into the Junior Achievers Business Hall of Fame, Collins served as CEO of P.F. Collins from 1981 and remains current chair of the board of the company, which first started business in 1921.
Also coming out of retirement is former C-CORE president and CEO Charles Randell, who retired from C-CORE in 2017 after 11 years at the helm. Randell is currently the principal at Magellan Consulting, a company he founded open retirement from C-CORE.
From Stephenville, Roland Strickland joins Murphy and Collins on the board. Strickland is a petroleum geologist with years of experience working in the province's offshore oil and gas industry.
On top of business acumen, the board also seats current and former executives within the provincial government.
Ted Lomund, deputy minister of Natural Resources, and Denise Hanrahan, deputy minister of Finance, also hold seats on the board of directors. Heather Jacobs, former deputy minister in the department of Justice, also holds a seat on the new OilCo board.
Former assistant deputy minister of Natural Resources Pierre Tobin joins the board of the crown corporation. Tobin began his career with the provincial government in 1982 in the then-named Department of Industry. Tobin currently sits on the board of directors of Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador after his March 2018 appointment to that board.
Wayne Chipman, a mechanical engineer, had a key hand in creating Nalcor Energy from the beginning and will now try his hand in helping establish the new “OilCo.” Chipman is a former Chief Conservation Officers with the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB).
It’s unknown when full details of the Crown corporation, which was announced as part of the 2018 provincial budget, will be known. During the second quarter results for Nalcor Energy, CEO Stan Marshall suggested full details will be known before the end of the year.
