Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest independent commercial insurance broker is looking to establish a presence outside its home province’s borders.

Cal LeGrow Insurance and Financial Group, which boasts over 4,000 client businesses in this province, are opening an office in Halifax.

“Expansion into the Maritimes is a logical next step in our story to take the strength of the Cal LeGrow brand and value proposition and plant it proudly into the Maritimes,” CEO and chairman Jeff LeGrow stated in a news release.

“Today we service about 1 in 4 businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador, and as our clients are growing and expanding into the Maritimes, now so must we.”

As part of the expansion, Cal LeGrow announced the return of Keith Vokey, who will serve as the senior vice-president in charge of Maritime operations. Vokey worked for the company early in his sales and marketing career.

“He has spent his career in senior sales and key account positions, building a deep roster of client relationships and experiences that he will bring to our business,” LeGrow stated.

There were other organizational changes in the local office, as well, with Kevin Casey being named the newest partner, shareholder and executive vice-president.

Casey, a co-founder of advertising agency The Idea Factory in St. John’s, joined the Cal LeGrow team two years ago as senior vice-president of sales and marketing. President Rod Vatcher said that at the time, they knew Casey could enhance the sales culture and brand, and they haven’t been disappointed.

Casey, for his part, stated he’s excited to be a part of the company’s plans for future growth.

“Like so many mature industries, the future of business insurance is changing rapidly and we are positioning ourselves to meet those demands head-on,” Casey stated. “We will continue to invest in talent and we are always exploring acquisition opportunities in the insurance and wealth management space.”
