The Women in Resource Development Corp. (WRDC) is a provincial non-profit organization that has committed to increasing women’s participation in trades and technology since 1997. With both private and public funding, WRDC, and its Educational Resource Center offer a variety of programs and services to address the challenges surrounding the attraction, recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in these sectors.

This month WRDC presented its 2018 Diversity and Inclusion Awards during annual general meeting. Awards were presented in three categories: women in trades and technology; community excellence; and diversity in industry.

This year’s winners were:

Metrobus — Diversity in Industry Award;

Catherine Dutton and Della Ryan — Women in Trades & Technology Award;

Ashley Turner — Community Excellence Award.

Since 2014, WRDC has been formally and publicly recognizing the women, community organizations and industry players who are also “making it happen” for women in trades and technology in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“This year’s diversity and inclusion recognition award recipients inspire and empower girls and women in our province to consider, choose, and succeed in these fields,” WRDFC said in a statement. “They are passionate and committed to doing it better, making a difference, and leading the way for others. They are shining examples of determination, integrity, and leading by example. They walk their talk and they set the standard higher for all of us.”
