Corrina Penney believes it’s important to support events held in her community because it’s a great way to bring residents together in a fun environment.
Penney is doing her part to celebrate all that Pasadena has to offer as the chairperson of the organizing committee for the 2018 Humber Valley Strawberry Festival Pasadena Days scheduled for Aug. 3-4 in the Humber Valley town.
There hasn’t been a strawberry festival held in Pasadena for the past two years and the last full-fledged event took place in 2012 to coincide with Come Home Year.
It’s back again and Penney is happy to play a role in delivering an action-packed two days of games, food and music for people from all walks of life with a fresh approach.
Penney said the event can only be a great time and deemed a big success if people in the town come out and support it.
She believes there’s something for everybody so she hopes to see the community become a closer-knit group through the various activities planned for both young and old alike.
“So everybody can get out and mingle and meet each other, and see what the town can bring together themselves,” Penney said. “The town needs to pull together and just have a good mingle, and everybody needs to know everybody at their grocery store.”
Day 1 is designed for the youth in the town with a ‘berry’ delicious youth zone that will allow boys and girls engaging in games and activities and having a chance to make their own sundae.
A ‘So Berry Sweet’ Fun Day is planned for Saturday with a fish pond, face-painting, cake and prizes among the things they can enjoy with family and friends at Pasadena Place.
Later in the evening, The Navigators will headline the main concert for Pasadena Days at the N. W. Bennett Sports Field with games opening at 8 p.m.
She may have been born in Western Bay, but Penney is excited about getting to know her new neighbours in the place she now calls home a little better.
