We would like to welcome everyone back for another school year! All the students and staff are happy to be back in school. We would like to welcome Ms. Ingrid Watkin to our office, Ms. Janessa Bursey as our grade two English teacher, and Ms. Krista Williams as our grade three English teacher.
Last Friday we had our opening of school Mass with Father Terry at All Hallows.

Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Alyssa Power whose baseball team won gold medals in the Provincial Under 12 Girls Tournament.
We would like to congratulate Ms. Gina Guy and Mr. Dennis Hinks on their marriage over the summer. Mrs. Hinks is returning to teach grade four this year.

Class News
The junior kindergarten classes are welcoming all their new friends to the classroom. They are learning about the letters A and B, the number one and the colour red.
Mrs. Ryan’s Kindergarten class is learning about patterns in math and have started a reading booklet. In French they are learning the morning routine and the calendrier. The class is doing trés bien.
Mrs. George’s grade one English class is very excited to be back with their friends again. They are enjoying their apple theme and can’t wait for the apple taste test today. They are becoming pattern experts! They are wishing everyone a fantastic school year.
Mme. Ryan’s grade two and three French Immersion class is learning about maps and where Newfoundland is located. They planted new seeds in their hydroponic garden. After only four days they have lettuce leaves sprouting!
Ms. Bursey’s grade two English class is learning about patterns and bullying this week. They are learning about water and air in science class.
Mme. King’s and Mr. Lukowski’s grade four, five and six French Immersion class is glad to be back at school with their friends. They have quickly become immersed in all of their daily subjects. They have done some review work in math with adding and subtracting and each grade has begun their first unit in all subjects.
Mrs. Williams’s grade three class did a science tour around the school. They collected soil and studied it with magnifying glasses. They found lots of materials, plants and living things in the soil.
Ms. Hink’s grade four class is proud to be back in school. They are excited about their fish tank and looking forward to planting in their aquaponics garden.
Mr. Ryley’s grade five class is excited to begin their first unit in science on maintaining a healthy human body. They are excited to prepare a project for the school’s 19th birthday celebration.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade six class is reading about the tree of life and how all living things are classified. They are enjoying the daily five literacy activities.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s grade seven and eight class is working on algebra in math class. This week they are looking at Canadian heritage projects in social studies.
Mr. Hancock’s grade nine to level three class was glad to start school this week and see all of their friends. Chemistry 2202 has begun review of previous science concepts. Science 1206 students have begun their study of ecology and ecosystems. The class would like to welcome Thomas Moerschell who is a level I student from Switzerland who has come to study for a year at IHMS.

Coming Up
The school breakfast program begins on Monday. It will operate daily from 7:30 am to 8:20 am.
The Terry Fox walk will take place on September 17th.
IHMS will celebrate it’s 19th birthday on Wednesday, September 19.
Curriculum night will be held on September 20th at 7:00 pm in our school gymnasium.
